Due to circumstances beyond our control, the unaffiliated show jumping show originally scheduled for 18 March 2012 will now take place one week earlier, on 11 March 2012.

Vaulting comes to The Stables...

The English Vaulting Squad will be coming to The Stables in July. The Squad will be putting on a display of this incredible horseback acrobatic sport on Sunday 24 July, from 13.30.
The display is free of charge but any donations towards the Squad’s costs will, we’re sure, be gratefully accepted.

Welcome... Buzz

After 11 months of waiting and several weeks of sleepless nights, stuck to the webcam, our Bee finally gave birth to her gorgeous little colt, Buzz, at 04.50 on Saturday 21 May 2011. She was a perfect mother, the labour was swift and uncomplicated and mother and foal are doing just fine...
Buzz was up and about within minutes of birth and cantering within a couple of hours. In fact, he was leading the grown-ups a merry chase as they tried to catch him and his mum in, so they could spend the night warm and dry.

Intensive courses go down a storm...

The recently-introduced range of intensive riding courses offered by The Stables Equestrian Centre have gone down a storm.
A steady stream of new riders have taken up on the opportunity to learn to ride in as short a timeframe as possible, some going from never sitting on a horse to cantering in a matter of hours.
But it’s not just novices who have benefited from the courses. Several experienced riders have used their time to develop their speciality riding, including jumping and dressage. Others have used their time, The Stables’ instructors and horses to overcome any confidence issues that may have developed and get back into the saddle.

2011 summer dates...

The dates for this summer’s events have been published.
We have come up with a series of Pony Days, during both half-term holidays as well as the Easter holidays and this year’s Junior Camp, where children have the chance to experience owning their own pony for three days and two nights.
There will be additional events taking place, such as our dressage evening competitions, so keep checking the website.

Sky1 comes to The Stables...

Sky1 chooses The Stables for Fat Familes’ treat
Sky1 recently chose The Stables Equestrian Centre in Wilstead as the location for the inspirational goal in the last episode of the current series of Fat Families: Second Helpings. Having lost a total of almost 16 Stones, the Hadrell family visited The Stables along with program host Steve Miller to try their hand at horse riding.
The program is aimed at helping families lose weight through a combination of improvements in their diet and adopting appropriate exercise. The Second Helpings edition of the program sees Miller re-visit families he has already worked with, to assess their ongoing success and reward them with an activity that has been a long-term ambition.
The Hadrell family from Luton lost a total of 15 Stone 10 pounds throughout the course of the series and the producers contacted The Stables to see if it would be able to provide facilities for the family to try their hand at riding.
Describing The Stables as “an exclusive establishment”, Miller was on hand as owner Jo Samuel-Blackstock introduced the family to some of The Stables’ 28 horses. She gave each of the family members an assessment lesson, getting even the most inexperienced novice riders to trot by the end of their first try.
The Stables was also the location for the final weight-loss reveal, as well as the ceremonial dumping of the lard used to indicate the average weight loss of each of the four family members – a full wheelbarrow load.
Commenting after the program aired on 7 July 2010, owner Jo Samuel-Blackstock said; “Of course, we were delighted to help the producers of Fat Families when they asked if we could give the Hadrell family an introduction to horse riding.
“I gather that Matt had ridden before but not for some time, while Sarah, Eileen and Linda were all complete novices. But that’s what we do, so I wasn’t worried about getting them up and riding. In fact, once they’d overcome their apprehension about actually getting on the horses, they were fine and seemed to really enjoy the experience.
“It’s a wonderful vindication of the effort that the whole team here at The Stables has put in to develop the reputation, for Sky1 to choose to come here as part of the series. I am extremely proud of the professionalism that the staff showed when the production team was here, as well as how well-behaved the horses were, despite all the activity that went into filming for the day.
“Now, I just need to figure out what to do with four stone of lard!”

Vale of Aylesbury Sponsored Ride...

A team of riders from The Stables Equestrian Centre raised £180 for charity this weekend, when they took part in the Vale of Aylesbury Sponsored Ride at RAF Halton.
The five riders, many of whom were taking part in their first cross country, enjoyed the spring sunshine as they completed the 90-minute course, each receiving a silver rosette for their efforts.
The team consisted of Trainee Instructors Sammy Jays riding Claymore, Laura Osbourne on Clover, Jen Browning riding Tick-Tock and Jaki Pyper on Marcus. Also joining the team was Lauren Jays riding Barnie.
Both Yard Manager Paula Jays and proprietor Jo Samuel-Blackstock were on hand to see the girls complete the course, with none putting a foot wrong and the horse behaving impeccably.

We have added a series of dates for events this summer, including junior and adult camps, day trips to the beach and dressage competitions.

Woburn rides...

We will be running two trips to Aspley Woods near Woburn in March, one on Tuesday 2 March and one, Tuesday 16 March.
If you haven’t been to Aspley, it’s lovely, The sand tracks wind through the pine woods so while you can take in the stunning scenery, you can avoid the mud and you and your horse remain clean, regardless of the weather.
We will be taking groups of equal ability riders and will start with a walk and trot before experienced riders can open up and go for a long gallop through the safe and secluded wood.
The cost is £90 for each rider, to include horse transport and packed lunch and will include at least three hours of saddle-time over the course of the whole day.

Clear Round Jumping...

We will be holding an evening of clear round jumping on Tuesday 16 February. We will run six classes, as follows:
16.00 - 17.00 - 2’0” and 2’3”
17.00 - 18.00 - 2’3” and 2’6”
18.00 - 19.00 - 2’6” and 2’9”

Each round costs £5 and as usual, there will be refreshments available on site.
